About CaribIX

CaribIX is a project co-financed by the INTERREG Caribbean program under the European Development Fund of the European Union.
It has been coordinated by the Caribbean Telecommunications Union (CTU) and accompanied by the Caribbean Network Operators Group (CARIBNOG), supporting the CTU as an implementing partner at the regional level while being promoted by the Prefecture of Guadeloupe.

The CaribIX project has received funding from the INTERREG Caribbean programme, co-financed by the European Union’s European Regional Development Fund. This project aims to reduce the disparity of access to computer technologies in the Caribbean. This is fully in line with the priorities of the INTERREG programme. The target is broad, since it includes digital professionals, public institutions and all areas of activity that can be carried out via the Internet. It also contributes to the strengthening of new digital uses in the fields of e-health and e-education, areas strategically supported by INTERREG.

The main implementing partner is the Caribbean Telecommunications Union (CTU).

The CTU is a non-profit intergovernmental organization created by the Caribbean Heads of Government by treaty in April 1989. It is currently composed of 20 member countries. It is dedicated to promoting and supporting the development of the Caribbean information and communication technology (ICT) sector for the socio-economic development of the region.

The CTU promotes the creation and operation of Internet Exchange Points (IXs) throughout the region. There are now twelve (12) IXPs in the Caribbean and hundreds more around the world.

In 2015, CTU partnered with Dauphin Telecom to establish Internet Exchange Points in the French Caribbean countries, this is the genesis of CaribIX.

CTU is coordinating the establishment of IXPs in Guadeloupe, St. Barts and St. Maarten to facilitate traffic exchange within and between the territories and with other Caribbean jurisdictions. The CTU provides program management oversight, technical advice and guidance on all aspects of the establishment and growth of IXPs. Learn more about the CTU: https://ctu.int
